Be careful

Before I became an actual mother, I was a really good parent. In theory. One of the things I was certain I would do is teach my child(ren) the proper names for their genitalia. Taking away the shame and embarrassment of those words and normalizing them was something I felt pretty strongly about.

In theory.

A has been learning her body parts. Last night in the bath she points and goes "Boo boo." Myself, being the awesome mother that I am said "That's your vagina."

"Ba-nin-a!"

And I dissolve into hysterical giggles. And because I am giggling, that makes her say it louder. Which just makes me laugh even harder.

Do you see the vicious cycle?

Perhaps this idea works if your mother doesn't have the sense of humor of an adolescent.
